Specialized Veterinary Care for Working and Athletic Dogs

Not every dog spends their day on the couch. Working dogs, hunting partners, agility competitors, service dogs, and weekend trail companions ask more of their bodies than the average pet — and their veterinary care should reflect that. At Baxter Creek Veterinary Clinic, our working dog and sports medicine program is built around the unique needs of these hardworking canines, with a goal of keeping them performing at their best, recovering quickly when something goes wrong, and staying healthy for the long haul.

This is one of the areas where our team’s experience really stands out. Dr. Spencer Anderson served three years as an Army veterinarian caring for military working dogs, including a deployment to Iraq. Dr. Miles Arakaki served as an Army veterinarian with two deployments to Afghanistan, worked at a civilian Army working dog kennel, and is a formally trained working dog trainer. Between them, our clinic offers a depth of working dog expertise that’s genuinely rare in private practice.

Our Working Dog and Sports Medicine Services

Performance and Conditioning Exams

We evaluate strength, mobility, endurance, and overall body condition to help your dog stay in peak shape — and to catch the early warning signs of strain, overuse, or imbalance before they become bigger problems.

Injury Diagnosis and Treatment

When a working or athletic dog gets hurt, fast and accurate diagnosis matters. Our in-house diagnostic imaging and laboratory services help us identify the source of soft tissue injuries, lameness, joint discomfort, or other concerns, and build a recovery plan tailored to your dog’s job and lifestyle.

Preventive and Maintenance Care

We provide tailored guidance on nutrition, conditioning routines, supplements, and recovery strategies for high-performance dogs. Regular check-ups help keep your dog fit, focused, and injury-resistant year-round.

Integrative Therapies

Acupuncture and other integrative therapies can play a powerful role in pain management, recovery, and performance optimization for working and athletic dogs. We use these tools alongside conventional veterinary medicine to give your dog every advantage.
